The Organisation
Albury Wodonga Health is a cross- border area health service, the first of its kind in Australia, with budgetary funds of $130million providing acute hospital services to a catchment population of 100,000 regional and rural residents of Albury Wodonga.
Albury Wodonga Health will be a Victorian public health service, established under the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic). It will operate from two campuses; one at the Wodonga Regional Health Service and the other at the Albury Base Hospital.
Albury Wodonga Health will be responsible for meeting the healthcare needs of its local community as well as the more complex or specialist health service needs of the wider population of the regional area covering north east Victoria and southern NSW.
As a regional health service, Albury Wodonga Health will be expected to forge strong working relationships with small health services located in the surrounding region within both NSW and Victoria.
The Role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the establishment and development of Australia’s first cross border health service, Albury Wodonga Health (AWH), which will be formed by the integration of Wodonga Regional Health Service (WRHS) and Albury Base Hospital (ABH).
The CEO will be responsible for the delivery of high quality health services and for the effective financial management of the organisation through a period of significant change.
The position has responsibility for managing the public health service in accordance with financial and business plans, strategies and budgets developed in conjunction and approved by the Board.
In performing his/her functions, the CEO will have regard to:
- the needs and views of patients and other users of the health services;
- the need to ensure that the public health service uses its resources effectively and efficiently; and
- the need to ensure that resources of the Victorian and NSW public health sectors generally are used effectively and efficiently.
Given the complex issues associated with integration, the CEO of Albury Wodonga Health will require a proven ability to manage a significant change process.
Key Working Relationships
The CEO will work closely with the Board and the executive management team in providing health services to meet the needs of the community.
The Ideal Candidate
To perform the role the Chief Executive Officer must possess:
- Demonstrated executive management experience ideally in the health sector, ability to influence at the local and State level and leadership skills across a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure clinical and non-clinical services are supplied effectively and equitably
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to ensure relationships are built and maintained with the diverse stakeholder groups so that health services are delivered effectively to the local population.
- Strong strategic and commercial skills to guide an organisation of this size and complexity.
- Demonstrated planning (health, workforce and financial), integration and evaluation skills to ensure available resources are used effectively in providing health service delivery solutions.
- Proven skills in achieving transformation within a large and complex organisation.
Location
Albury Wodonga is approximately 3 hours (by road) north of Melbourne and 6 hours (by road) south of Sydney.
