Chief Executive Officer

Our Client

Our client is a family owned FMCG business with a range of household names in their portfolio. They are currently undergoing a phase of revitalisation and have an opportunity for a new Chief Executive to lead them into a new phase of redevelopment and growth. The current incumbent is on an interim contact which concludes in June 2017 and this will be the first external Chief Executive the Group has recruited.

The Role

The CEO is responsible for the management of the Group and reports to the Board of Directors. The CEO’s main role is to provide drive and leadership to an experienced senior team in developing new positioning for existing products, and aid the revitalisation of an older brand. Emotional intelligence in dealing with a family owned business is vital.

  • Assume responsibility for setting the annual budgeted profit, as agreed with the Board
  • Report to the Board on progress of budget achievement and make recommendations where any action is required.
  • Provide guidance for the allocation of resources to achieve the annual budget
  • Work with the Leadership team to develop strategy
  • Implement plans to drive sustainable long term profitable growth
  • Set clear direction and bring clarity of purpose to the organisation
  • Establish clear goals and KPI’s, ensuring all employees are empowered and accountable for delivering the agreed outcomes
  • Manage and develop the company’s brands
  • Build, develop and maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders
  • Assume a mentoring/coaching role to help develop and grow the skills and performance of the Leadership team
  • Continually develop and reinforce the company’s culture and vision
  • Create an environment that promotes great performance and positive morale

The Candidate

We seek a proven senior manager, who must have FMCG experience, preferably with time in food. Marketing experience is a must and a very good understanding of brands is critical. The role requires cross functional experience as the business is currently heavily reliant on traditional grocery, so experience in dealing with the major chains would be preferable, and all production is third party. Therefore, an understanding of food production would be an advantage.

Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Understanding of working in a family owned business
  • FMCG experience – particularly around food production and supply chain
  • Strong marketing and sales functional managemen
  • Proven knowledge and management of finance and budgeting
Behavioural & Leadership Competencies
  • Capable leader of people and teams
  • Able to assume a mentoring/coaching role to help develop and grow the skills and performance of the Leadership team
  • Understanding and experience in change and organisational transformation.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline and /or MBA.
