OPPEUS Breakfast Colloquium: Strategic School Sustainability – New Trees to Green Fees

November 29, 2007

OPPEUS and Climate Positive jointly presented a unique colloquium to review recent developments related to climate change and Strategic School Sustainability which impact on leading schools within Australia. The event was held on Thursday 29 November at The Westin Hotel, with guests including leading independent school Principals and Chairs.

Schools, like the corporate sector, must have sound economic, social and environmentally sustainable operations. It is imperative to adopt a strategic approach to "School Social Responsibility" driven by the Board and the Executive Management team, where a balance between economic viability and social responsibility is a vital part of school strategic planning.

The colloquium provided an opportunity for Principals' and Chair's to have open dialogue on these critical issues, including driving a 'whole-school' approach to sustainability through a top-down strategic planning framework; factors affecting school choice, demographic trends and enrolments; and regulation and compliance requirements for schools related to carbon offset products and providers.
