René’s career spans both the consulting world in senior executive recruitment and senior executive positions in the corporate world, principally through the media and advertising sectors.
René commenced his career with Price Waterhouse in audit and after 4 years moved to Clemenger BBDO, a market leading advertising agency group in Australia, where he progressed to the role of Group Company Secretary and alternate Board member. The 80’s were an inquisitive time in the advertising industry and René was involved in several agency acquisitions both locally and internationally.
After 10 years with the Clemenger group, René left to take up positions in the media sector, initially as General Manager of a leading film production house, moving in the mid 90’s to manage the Victorian arm of Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) as Advertising Director and General Manager. Since then, René has been Joint Publisher of Melbourne Independent Newspapers (an APN Company), Chairman of the Allied community Newspapers group, and for a period of 5 years was the Victorian Director and General Manager for Pacific Publications, the magazine arm of the Seven Network. He was also the Publisher of two leading sport based lifestyle magazines.
At OPPEUS, René’s experience is principally channeled into the Talent domain with deep involvement in the Agriculture, Mining, Media, Education and Industrial sectors. René maintain close links with OPPEUS other practice domains being Organisation, Governance & Remuneration.
René holds a Bachelor of Business, is a CPA, Chartered Company Secretary and also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He was, until recently, Deputy Chairman of the Media & Marketing Advisory Board of the Cancer Council in Victoria.
